Dhruv Tara - The Pole Star

विष्णु

King Uttanapada had two queens — Suniti and Suruchi. Suniti's son was Dhruv and Suruchi's son was Uttam. The king favored Suruchi more. One day, little five-year-old Dhruv wanted to sit on his father's lap. Suruchi pushed him away cruelly and said he had no right to sit there. She told him to pray to God to be born as her son in the next life if he wanted such privileges. Little Dhruv was deeply hurt. He went crying to his mother Suniti. His wise mother told him that Lord Vishnu is the greatest of all and that he should seek Vishnu's blessings. Dhruv made up his mind — he would pray to Lord Vishnu with all his heart. The tiny boy went into the deep forest and began intense meditation. He gave up food and water. The sage Narada visited him and taught him a sacred Vishnu mantra. Dhruv's devotion was so powerful that all three worlds began to tremble. Lord Vishnu was deeply moved by the little boy's determination. He appeared before Dhruv and blessed him with an eternal place in the sky as a star that never moves. This is the Pole Star, called Dhruv Tara, which still shines brightly in the northern sky, guiding travelers to this day.
