Draupadi's Vastraharan

कृष्ण

One of the most sorrowful events in the Mahabharata is the disrobing of Draupadi. The Kauravas defeated the Pandavas through a rigged game of dice. Duryodhana, with Shakuni's cunning help, trapped Yudhishthira in gambling. Yudhishthira wagered and lost his kingdom, wealth, his brothers, and finally Draupadi herself. Duryodhana ordered Dushasana to drag Draupadi into the full court. Dushasana seized her by the hair and pulled her before the assembly. Duryodhana then commanded Dushasana to disrobe her publicly. Draupadi pleaded for justice from every elder present — Bhishma, Drona, and Vidura — but all remained silent. When no help came, Draupadi raised both hands and called out to Lord Krishna with complete surrender. From distant Dwarka, Krishna used his divine power to protect her. Dushasana kept pulling at her garment, but the cloth never ended — it kept flowing endlessly. Finally, Dushasana collapsed from exhaustion. Draupadi vowed she would not tie her hair until it was washed with Dushasana's blood. This terrible humiliation planted the seeds for the great war of Mahabharata.

Moral

Silence in the face of injustice is participation in that injustice.
