Eklavya - The Devoted Student
एकलव्य
Eklavya was a tribal boy who dreamed of becoming a great archer. He went to Guru Dronacharya, the finest archery teacher in the land, and begged to become his student. But Dronacharya refused because he only taught princes and warriors of royal families. Eklavya did not give up. He went deep into the forest and made a clay statue of Guru Dronacharya. Every single day, he sat before that statue and practiced archery with complete devotion. He treated the statue as his real teacher and taught himself through sheer hard work and dedication. Day after day, month after month, Eklavya practiced until he became an extraordinary archer. One day, a dog was barking loudly in the forest. Eklavya shot arrows with such incredible speed and precision that the dog's mouth was filled with arrows, yet the dog was not hurt at all. When Dronacharya saw this astonishing skill, he was stunned. He asked who had taught the boy. Eklavya pointed to the clay statue and said that Dronacharya himself was his guru. Dronacharya then asked for a guru dakshina, a teacher's fee — he asked for Eklavya's right thumb. Without a moment's hesitation, Eklavya cut off his thumb and offered it to his guru. This remains one of the greatest examples of sacrifice and devotion to a teacher.
