Krishna and the Butter Thief

कृष्ण

In the village of Vrindavan, little Krishna lived with his mother Yashoda. Krishna loved butter more than anything else. Every day, he would sneak into the kitchen and eat all the butter. Mother Yashoda decided to hang the butter pot high up from the ceiling so Krishna could not reach it. But clever little Krishna had a plan. He called all his friends together. They climbed on each other's shoulders to make a tall tower. Krishna climbed to the very top, reached the pot, and broke it open. All the children shared the butter happily and even fed some to the monkeys nearby. The village women, called gopis, came to Yashoda to complain that Krishna was stealing butter from their homes too. Yashoda caught Krishna and scolded him. Krishna looked at his mother with his big innocent eyes and said he had not stolen any butter. But there was butter smeared all over his face! Yashoda could not help but laugh and hugged him tightly. Everyone in the village loved Krishna's playful mischief.
