Saraswati's Gift of Knowledge

सरस्वती

In the beginning of creation, when Brahma made the world, there was only chaos. There was no language, no music, no knowledge. Creatures could not communicate with each other. Everything was disordered and silent. Then Brahma brought forth Goddess Saraswati from his divine energy. Saraswati appeared dressed in white, seated on a lotus, holding a veena in her hands. She carried a book in one hand and a rosary in another. The moment she plucked the strings of her veena, sound echoed through the world for the very first time. From that divine music, rivers began to flow, birds started singing, and sweet melodies filled the air. Saraswati gave creatures the gift of language so they could express their thoughts. She gave them script so knowledge could be written down. She blessed the world with art, music, and science. This is why Saraswati is called the Goddess of Knowledge. On the day of Basant Panchami, we worship Saraswati and resolve to learn new things.
