Sati's Sacrifice

शिव

Sati was Lord Shiva's first wife and the daughter of Daksha Prajapati. Daksha despised Shiva because Shiva lived in cremation grounds, smeared ash on his body, and dressed simply. Sati had married Shiva against her father's wishes, which enraged Daksha further. Once, Daksha organized a grand sacrificial ceremony and invited all the gods, but deliberately excluded Shiva and Sati. When Sati learned of this, she was deeply hurt. Shiva advised her not to go, but Sati insisted that a daughter needs no invitation to visit her father's home. Sati arrived at the ceremony. There, Daksha publicly insulted Shiva before everyone. Sati could not bear the humiliation of her husband. She declared that she could no longer keep a body born from someone who disrespected Shiva. Sati leaped into the sacrificial fire and gave up her life. When Shiva learned what had happened, his fury was boundless. He sent Virabhadra to destroy Daksha's ceremony. Later, Sati was reborn as Parvati and reunited with Shiva.

Moral

Honor and self-respect are more precious than life itself.
