Shabari's Berries
राम
Shabari was an elderly tribal woman who lived alone in the forest. Before passing away, her guru Sage Matanga had told her that one day Lord Rama would visit her. From that day onward, Shabari cleaned her hut every morning, decorated it with flowers, and waited patiently for Rama's arrival. Many years passed, but Shabari's faith never wavered. Each day she gathered fresh berries from the forest. She tasted every single berry first to check if it was sweet or sour. She kept only the sweetest ones and discarded the rest, so that Rama would receive nothing but the best. One blessed day, Lord Rama and Lakshmana truly arrived at Shabari's humble hut. Shabari was overwhelmed with joy. With trembling hands, she offered Rama the berries she had already tasted. Lakshmana noticed the berries were half-eaten, but Rama lovingly ate every single one and declared he had never tasted sweeter berries in his life. Rama said that true devotion knows no caste, wealth, or appearance — only pure love and surrender matter to the divine.
Moral
In true devotion, only love and faith truly matter.
