Shiva Drinks Poison

शिव

During the churning of the ocean, when gods and demons were working together, the first thing to emerge was a terrifying poison. This poison was called Halahala. It was so potent that its heat began scorching the entire world. Trees withered, rivers dried up, and living beings writhed in agony. Both gods and demons were terrified. No one was capable of handling this deadly poison. Together they rushed to Lord Shiva and begged for his help. Without a moment's hesitation, Shiva decided to save the world. Lord Shiva took the terrible Halahala poison in his palm and drank it all. Goddess Parvati immediately pressed his throat so the poison would not descend into his stomach. The poison remained trapped in his throat, turning it a deep blue color. This is why Shiva is called Neelkanth, meaning the blue-throated one. Shiva saved the entire world without any concern for his own life. His sacrifice teaches us that a true leader is one who takes on the suffering of others as their own.

Moral
