Varaha Avatar - The Boar

A powerful demon named Hiranyaksha seized the Earth and hid it deep beneath the cosmic ocean. He was so mighty that no god dared to challenge him. Without the Earth, all of creation fell into chaos and every living being suffered. The gods pleaded with Lord Vishnu for help. Vishnu took the form of Varaha — a colossal divine boar whose body was as vast as a mountain. Lord Varaha plunged into the depths of the ocean to find the Earth. At the bottom of the ocean, Hiranyaksha confronted Lord Varaha. A ferocious battle ensued that raged for a thousand years. Hiranyaksha used every trick and power he possessed, but he could not withstand the might of Lord Varaha. Finally, Lord Varaha defeated and slew the demon. He then gently lifted the Earth on his great tusks and carried her back to her rightful place in the universe. Creation was restored to order once again.
