Satyanarayan Vrat Katha
भगवान विष्णु · पूर्णिमा/कोई भी शुभ दिन
Katha
Once Narada Muni was traveling on Earth and saw people suffering greatly. He went to Lord Vishnu and asked for a simple remedy for human suffering. Lord Vishnu said that listening to the Satyanarayan Katha and observing the vrat fulfills all wishes and removes sorrows. Narada came to Earth and told a poor Brahmin about this vrat. The Brahmin worshipped Satyanarayan with devotion and listened to the katha. His poverty vanished. Then a woodcutter observed the vrat and also became wealthy. A merchant vowed to perform the puja before a sea voyage but forgot after his successful return. He lost everything. When he performed the vrat again, all was restored. King Tungadhwaj also disrespected the Satyanarayan Katha and lost his kingdom. When he repented and performed the puja, everything was returned. This katha teaches that Satyanarayan Bhagwan should be worshipped with a sincere heart and his puja should never be disrespected.
Method
Observe the vrat on Purnima or any auspicious day. Install the idol of Satyanarayan Bhagwan. Bathe the idol with Panchamrit. Prepare prasad (sheera/panjiri) from one and a quarter kilograms of flour. Listen to the katha in five chapters. Distribute prasad and always accept the katha prasad.
Significance
Satyanarayan Vrat is one of the simplest and most rewarding fasts. It is observed for wish fulfillment, prosperity, and family welfare. This katha can be performed on any auspicious occasion.
